Skipton Building Society
The scheme for the Skipton Building Society was won after intervention from Prince Charles. The large site on the outskirts of the Dales town of Skipton was a major landmark in the valley and so was of major significance. Francis Shaw, whilst working for Percy Thomas Architects, was asked to develop a design based upon the local vernacular. Local eighteenth century warehouses and The great houses of John Carr were a big influence in developing the design and securing local support and planning consent. The offices were designed around a central courtyard over three floors and is approximately 90,000 sq ft.
